Thin Place – Glass Portal
The glass face magnifies the materiality of the paint and yet removes the ability to touch. In glass, reflection and refraction occur, deliberately creating ambiguous layers
The work plays on the binary opposites, liquid/ solid, interior/exterior – water again as a signifier for transcendence, a threshold into another world, into two interconnected worlds, one internal, the other the external, a dynamic of nature.
The ice and glass paintings are an attempt to negotiate this in between space, to take you beyond the immediate and familiar, to consider the larger context in which this life world exists.
